To give the subject some meaningful context, I believe it would serve to start a theme by initial discussing its value. Then I would run through some basic cases. I must emphasise that there are no stupid questions, anything to aid a tutee's understanding is important. After I've run through a few examples, I would like to have the student gone through their own example, speaking with me as if they were the tutor and I was the student.
